Andre Johnson Houston Texans Receiver

Houston Texans legend Andre Johnson was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 2019. During his induction speech, he shared a memory from his first Pro Bowl. An overheard comment lit a fire in Johnson that motivated him to excel throughout his fabulous career with the Houston Texans.

“In 2003, when I was drafted by the Houston Texans, I really didn’t know what to expect,” Johnson said at the 2019 Texas Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony. “I grew up in Miami and I went to college in Miami. It was my first time being away from home. You know, I was coming to a new franchise and I knew it will be some tough times.”

Andre Johnson First Pro Bowl

“My second year I made my first Pro Bowl. They called the teams up in alphabetical order and they said the Houston Texans were up next. I don’t know who the guy was, but I saw a guy mumble to one of the guys who worked in NFL and was like, ‘Who the hell is here from the Houston Texans?’

Johnson added that the comment motivated him and made him proud to be a member of the Houston Texans. “That was something that always stuck with me. It was always something inside of me, it was a fire that burned. I wanted to put the Houston Texans on the map. You know, that was my biggest thing. It was something I wanted to do. And when you thought of the Houston Texans, you thought of Andre Johnson.”
